Terms & Conditions

The terms and responsibilities that apply when using ScanLeap and ScanLeap Plus.

ScanLeap Terms and Conditions

These terms are an agreement between you and CDOXS ("we", "us"), the publisher of the ScanLeap app ("ScanLeap", "the app"). By installing or using ScanLeap, you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information.

1. The app

ScanLeap lets you scan documents, edit and fill PDFs, merge and split them, and convert Word, PowerPoint and image files to PDF. It also lets you save and share your files, and keep them in a PIN-locked vault. These tools run on your phone. Features may differ between Google Play, the App Store and Huawei AppGallery, and some may be marked "coming soon".

We may add, change or remove features at any time. We will try not to remove a paid feature during a subscription period you have already paid for.

2. Who can use ScanLeap

You must be at least 13 years old, or 16 in the EEA and UK, to use ScanLeap. If you are under the age of adulthood where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.

3. Accounts

You can use ScanLeap without an account, or sign in with Google, Apple or Huawei ID, depending on your store. You are responsible for keeping your phone and sign-in account secure.

If you use the app without signing in, your files and settings exist only on that phone. They may be lost for good if you uninstall the app, clear its data or lose the phone.

You can delete your account at any time in Account > Delete account. This permanently removes your account, the files saved in ScanLeap on that phone and your vault. It cannot be undone.

4. Free version and ads

The free version is supported by ads. Some actions, such as saving a file, may require you to watch one or more rewarded ads to the end first. If an ad cannot load, the action may not be available until one does. We may change how many ads are shown and which actions need them.

5. ScanLeap Plus

ScanLeap Plus is an optional paid subscription. It currently includes:

  • no ads when scanning and converting
  • PDF editing and splitting
  • the vault

The current features and prices are shown in the app before you buy.

  • Billing: Plus is sold as a monthly or yearly subscription through Google Play, the App Store or AppGallery ("the store"). The store charges your store account when you confirm the purchase, at the price shown, including any taxes.
  • Automatic renewal: your subscription renews automatically at the end of each period at the then-current price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the period ends. The store may charge you up to 24 hours before renewal.
  • Cancelling: cancel in your store account's subscription settings. Deleting the app or your ScanLeap account does not cancel Plus. After you cancel, Plus stays active until the end of the period you paid for.
  • Price changes: we will tell you about a price increase in advance, as the store requires. You can cancel before it applies.
  • Free trials and offers: if one is offered, its length and terms are shown before you start. Unless you cancel before it ends, it turns into a paid subscription.
  • Refunds: payments are handled by the store, so refunds follow the store's refund policy. Contact Google, Apple or Huawei to request one. This does not limit any refund rights you have under the law where you live.
  • Restoring: you can restore Plus on a new phone with the same store account using Restore purchases in the app.
  • Pending payments: Plus unlocks only after the store confirms payment.

6. The vault

The vault encrypts your files on your phone and stores the encrypted copies in your own Google Drive or iCloud Drive. Your storage provider's quota and terms apply. You choose a PIN, and the app shows you a recovery key once.

We do not have your PIN, recovery key or encryption key. If you lose both your PIN and your recovery key, nobody, including us, can open your vault. You are responsible for keeping your recovery key safe.

If your Plus subscription ends, we will not delete your vault. You may not be able to add new files to it until you subscribe again.

7. Your content

You own the documents and files you create, import or store with ScanLeap. We do not claim any rights to them, and we do not receive them unless you send them to us, for example in a support email.

You are responsible for your content and for having the right to scan, edit, convert and share it. Do not use ScanLeap to forge, alter or misrepresent documents, signatures or identities.

Keep your own copies of important files. Files stored only on your phone can be lost if the phone or app data is lost.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use ScanLeap for anything illegal, fraudulent or harmful
  • copy, modify, distribute, sell or rent the app, or make works based on it
  • reverse-engineer, decompile or disassemble the app, except where the law allows it
  • get around Plus, ads, security or other limits in the app
  • interfere with the app, its servers or other users

9. Third-party services

ScanLeap relies on services from other companies, including:

  • Google: Firebase, Sign-In, Drive, AdMob, ML Kit and Play
  • Apple: Sign in with Apple, iCloud and the App Store
  • Huawei: Huawei ID, Ads Kit and AppGallery

Your use of these services follows their own terms. We are not responsible for their availability or actions.

10. Our rights in the app

The app, its design, code, name and logo belong to CDOXS or its licensors. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable licence to use ScanLeap on devices you own or control, under these terms and the rules of the store you got it from. Fonts and open-source components in the app are used under their own licences.

11. Disclaimers

ScanLeap is provided "as is" and "as available". Edge detection, enhancement, conversion and editing are automated and may not be perfect. Always check important documents against the original before relying on them, especially for legal, financial or official use.

To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not promise the app will always be available, error-free or compatible with every file.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages. This includes the loss of data, files, profits or business. It covers loss caused by a lost PIN or recovery key.

Our total liability to you for any claim about the app is limited to the greater of two amounts: what you paid us for ScanLeap in the 12 months before the claim, or USD 50.

Some places do not allow these limits. Where they do not, the limits apply only as far as the law permits. Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

13. Ending these terms

You can stop using ScanLeap at any time by deleting your account and uninstalling the app. We may suspend or end your access if you break these terms, or if we have to for legal reasons. If we stop offering ScanLeap, we will try to give reasonable notice so you can export your files and vault.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. We will change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will tell you in the app or on the store listing before it takes effect. If you keep using ScanLeap after a change, you accept the new terms.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction]. Disputes go to the courts of [jurisdiction]. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may bring claims in your local courts.

16. Apple App Store users

If you downloaded ScanLeap from the App Store, these terms are between you and CDOXS, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for the app.

If the app fails to meet any warranty that applies, you may tell Apple, and Apple may refund the purchase price. Apple has no other warranty obligation. Apple is not responsible for handling claims about the app, including:

  • product liability claims
  • claims that the app fails to meet legal or regulatory requirements
  • consumer protection or privacy claims
  • claims that the app infringes someone's intellectual property

You confirm that:

  • you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo, or designated as "terrorist supporting"
  • you are not on any US Government list of prohibited or restricted parties

Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. Your use of the app must also follow Apple's Usage Rules in the App Store Media Services Terms.

17. Huawei AppGallery users

If you downloaded ScanLeap from AppGallery, Huawei's AppGallery terms also apply. Huawei is not responsible for the app or its support.

If a part of these terms cannot be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about ScanLeap.
